Circe

Our Rating: 7.55/10 ⭐

The twists and turns in Circe's life, although a goddess seem strangely relatable. She is an outcast, an alternative and curious mind, always pondering over the world. She has been fated with strange luck, of the kind that you don't know is luck until you grow wiser through living and the follies that come with it. The passages depict her life stories, acutely similar to our own lives and the memories, regrets, lessons and "scars" (for an immortal may not scar) that she gathers from each of them. What I find beautifully deceptive from the lessons described is how they couldn't be fully explained or understood without first experiencing them, just like birth, love, jealousy and death.

Circe being born a goddess can have her every desire met, her every wish granted under one condition - that she submits to the vain wills and whims of the gods. She chooses rebellion, carving her own path, creation and transformation. Growth, love and ultimately independece. Making mistakes, fearing and trying her best. Everything that she wanted, was what made her more human than a god at every step, at every decision she made unwillingly. The story ends with her looking at herself and realizing what she truly is, what she fought all her life to be, happy.

The brilliance in Miller's story is turning perfection into flaw and showing the simplicity, beauty and value in it. She makes a point that despite all the tragedies it may bring life is worth living for its small moments of growth and love.
